(A) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Z-Morh Sonamarg Tunnel’ in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on January 13. Due to snowfall, the Srinagar to Sonamarg highway used to remain closed for 6 months. With the construction of the tunnel, people will get all-weather connectivity. This tunnel has been built for Rs 2,700 crore and its construction started in 2015. This tunnel is part of the 434 km long Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway project. 31 tunnels are being built under this project, out of which 20 are in Jammu and Kashmir and 11 in Ladakh.

(D) (The 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) began in Bangkok on 13 January. The theme of the meeting this year is ‘Secure, Innovative, Inclusive: Shaping ASEAN’s Digital Future‘. Important topics like cross border privacy framework, digital identity verification and artificial intelligence (AI) will be discussed in the meeting. ASEAN is a regional group that promotes economic, political and security cooperation. Its 10 member countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Apart from these, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand are partner countries. It was established in August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the founders of ASEAN i.e. Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
It is chaired annually by member nations in the order of the English words.

(C) On January 11, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel began the ‘International Kite Festival’ by launching kites over Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s Sabarmati Riverfront. Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Dhordo, Shivrajpur Beach, and the Statue of Unity are among the Gujarati cities celebrating the festival at the same time. 52 kite fliers from 11 states and 143 kite flyers from 47 nations took part in this kite festival. During this festival, 417 kite flyers from 11 Gujarati cities are also showcasing their abilities. Ambassadors from eleven different nations have taken part in this festival this year.
